Suburban Ice Program

Suburban Ice East Lansing Zamboni Information

February, 25, 2011

1. We do have Carbon Monoxide detectors.  We are currently looking to update this system to make sure we are current with all of today’s requirements and standards.

2:  Our Olympia’s run on Natural Gas.  Which is a cleaner burning fuel than gas and propane.  We do readings on our machines on a daily basis and service them weekly to make sure everything is running correctly. The readings we do on our machines allow us to keep track of any problems we had or any issues we might have.  All of this information is logged into  logs books which we keep on site.   The fuel source is not the problem in these stories, it is the fact they have poorly maintained Olympia’s and Zamboni’s and there is no ventilation systems in place.

 3. We do have a ventilation system in place.  We have a pressurized system which means we are blowing in clean air from the outside 24/7  (one reason why our rinks are so cold) and it vents out  the other side of the rink through the outside air vent.  This system runs off of our dehumidification system which is running 24/7..

Suburban has really high standards in all of our facilities and are continually looking into better systems, updating systems and maintaining the ones we have.

 Hope this answers your questions.

Suburban Ice East Lansing FUNdamental Hockey Program

Suburban Ice East Lansing has a commitment to the development of skills, knowledge of the game and FUN! The programs run 25 weeks from September through March (no skates during holiday breaks). Pick up a registration form at Suburban Ice East Lansing or call 517-336-4272 for more information.

Programs offered:

  • 4-6 year olds. Mighty Mites. Recommended as a first step for beginning hockey players who have completed a Learn to Skate class and have a solid base of fundamental skating skills.
  • 5-8 year olds. Mini Mites. Program serves as an introduction to “team” play with practice sessions and small-ice games.
  • 7-14 year olds. Be a Player. Weekly practice sessions focus on fundamental skating and puck skills using skill stations and small-ice games. Weekend games will be structured to maximize ice time, teach positioning, strategy and rules of the game, and to insure that each player has the opportunity to compete, improve and enjoy the game.
  • 7-14 year olds. It’s a Girl Thing! League for girls only – no boys allowed.

Suburban Ice East Lansing and GLAHA have a partnership. In December, if there is a skater that can move to a GLAHA team, the Suburban Ice East Lansing instructor will recommend that to GLAHA. At that time the coaches of the age-appropriate division will evaluate the skater and he/she will be placed on the team that has the next draft if it is determined that the skater is ready to move up.

Call 517-336-4272 if you have questions regarding the programs at Suburban Ice East Lansing.
